The Professional Staff Senate has opened its annual call for nominations
for its Outstanding Service Award. This award is given each year to
members of UB's professional staff who make outstanding community service
contributions. Unlike the Chancellor's Award for Professional Service,
which emphasizes on-the-job excellence, the PSS Outstanding Service Award
goes to professional staff members who have made signal contributions to
the larger community. While service accomplishments may be associated
with university initiatives, they must exceed the normal scope of the
recipient's university responsibilities. Eligible individuals are employees of UB, UBF, RF, or FSA who have completed at least two years of continuous full-time professional staff service. Previous winners of the Outstanding Service Award are ineligible for five years after receiving the award. Award recipients during the last five years have been Jay Friedman, Charles Brunskill, John Bis, James Gerland, Elsie Pacheco, Nelson Townsend, Darlene Pickering-Hummert, and Charles Sonntag. In addition to performing demonstrably noteworthy community service, nominees must exceed average expectations on the job. Clear, specific evidence of leadership, commitment, creativity, and initiative is important in building a persuasive and competitive dossier. The awards, to be presented at a luncheon on May 15, carry with them a cash award and a certificate of recognition. Any member of the UB community may submit nominations. Appropriate forms and detailed instructions for submission are available from Christine Sauciunac, Chair of the Professional Staff Senate Awards Committee, in care of the Professional Staff Senate Office (543 Capen Hall, 645-2003). All nominations must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 22, 1996.
