The Bulls' Thom Kaye set a school record over the weekend as UB participated in the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State. Kaye, a graduate of Sweet Home High School, broke the old mark in the long jump with a distance of 22-11 1/4. Kaye finished 12th in the event at the prestigious meet against some of the top competition in the East.

The Bulls also sent a squad to the University of Rochester meet as Neil Murray took the pole vault with a leap of 13-6 and Tony Carroll won the discus at 133-6.

VOLLEYBALL

Four University at Buffalo women's volleyball players have been honored for their success in the classroom earning spots on the Mid-Continent Conference's Women's Volleyball All-Academic Team.

Seniors Cathy Novocilsky and Laurie Santelli, junior Candi Sims and sophomore Nancy Rose were named to the team last week by the conference.

Novocilsky completed the fall 1995 semester with a 3.833 grade point average and has a 3.305 GPA overall. Santelli and Sims each compiled 3.800 marks last fall. Santelli's overall GPA is 3.498 and Sims' is at 3.414. Rose earned a 3.417 GPA during the fall and currently stands with 3.235 overall mark. As a team, the Royals earned a 3.088 GPA last fall.

Novocilsky appeared in 51 games last season registering 45 kills and 46 total blocks. She will be graduating in May with a degree in physical anthropology.

Santelli, who was also selected to the league's second team All-Eastern Division, led the Royals with 368 digs in 117 games and accounted for 330 kills. She will also be graduating in May with a political science degree.

Sims, a business administration major, led UB with 1,104 assists (8.76 per game) and was selected to the Mid-Con's first team All-Eastern Division. Rose, an exercise science major, collected 145 kills and 116 blocks last season.

The Royals were 22-13 overall last season and 3-3 in the Mid-Continent Conference for head coach Bob Maxwell.
