Conference set on microbial pathogenesis

The Microbial Pathogenesis Graduate Group of the University at Buffalo and the Western New York branch of the American Society of Microbiologists are co-sponsors of the Buffalo Conference on Microbial Pathogenesis, being held Wednesday, April 24 at the University Inn in Amherst.

Philip T. LoVerde, professor and associate chairman of Microbiology, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, is program chairman.

The day-long conference, will feature five authorities in the discipline, who will present their work, including:

Denise A. Galloway, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, Seattle: "Papilloma Virus Oncogenes Disrupt Cell Cycle Checkpoints"

Ann M. Arvin, Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, Calif.: "Aspects of Varicella-Zoster Virus Pathogenesis and Immunity"

Stephen L. Hajduk, University of Alabama at Birmingham: "Mechanism of Human Serum HDL Killing of African Trypanosomes"

Francis L. Macrina, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Va.: "Molecular Pathogenesis of Streptococcal Endocarditis"

Magdelene So, The Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland, Ore.: "How Do Neisseria Infect and Survive in Mucosal Epithelia?"

Posters will be presented by Buffalo laboratories, with two poster sessions scheduled.
