Richard E. Dollinger, 47, assoc. professor of electrical & computer engineering

Private funeral services will be held for Richard E. Dollinger, 47, an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at UB's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Dollinger died April 15.

A faculty member since 1977, he was the major advisor for many master's and doctoral students. A dedicated and admired teacher, Dollinger received recognition in 1995 from the Mu Alpha chapter of the National Order of Omega for his work with student organizations, in particular, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, for which he was an advisor.

An enthusiastic supporter of secondary science and engineering education, Dollinger developed innovative exhibits and demonstrations with graduate and undergraduate students for presentation before aspiring young scientists/ engineers for the university's annual Science Exploration Day. In 1995, Buffalo-area Engineering Awareness for Minorities (BEAM) recognized him for his outstanding support of their program by hosting young minorities in his laboratories during summers.

In addition to his dedicated work as teacher and mentor, Dollinger developed an excellent research reputation. He concentrated his efforts on pulse power technology and electromagnetics and served as deputy director of the UB Space Power Insulation Institute. He authored or co-authored more than 50 papers and articles, and was an invited speaker at workshops and seminars across the country.

His memberships included the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, American Society of Engineering Education, American Physical Society, American Institute of Physics, Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi and the Tesla Memorial Society. He was listed in Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World. He received bachelor's master's and doctoral degrees from Texas Tech University.
