State University of New York Chancellor Thomas A. Bartlett resigned
Tuesday after reports of on-going differences with the SUNY Board of
Trustees. Bartlett was named chancellor in 1994 by then-Gov. Mario Cuomo and took office less than one month after George Pataki was elected governor. His tenure has been plagued by reports of conflict with the SUNY Board of Trustees, which since February has been controlled by Pataki appointees. Bartlett is former chancellor of the University of Oregon and University of Alabama systems. He also has served as president of Colgate University. According to the Buffalo News, Bartlett has agreed to stay on until June 15 or until an interim chancellor is appointed.
