Nursing program to note 60th anniversary Oct. 5

Jeannette Spero, professor and former dean of the College of Nursing and Health at the University of Cincinnati, will deliver the keynote address Oct. 5 at a symposium celebrating the 60th anniversary of the UB School of Nursing.

The program, "Nursing in the 21st Century: A Celebration of Our Past and A Look to the Future," will be held in the Buffalo Marriott and the Center for Tomorrow, North Campus. An evening ceremony will recognize seven alumni for their contributions to the field of nursing.

Alumni and faculty are returning to participate in the anniversary of the school, formed in 1936 as a division of the UB medical school. It became an independent unit in 1940.

The symposium, with remarks by UB president William R. Greiner and Mecca S. Cranley, professor and dean of the UB nursing school, will feature a talk by Kathleen A. Powers, professor and chair of nursing at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, a panel discussion on emerging roles for nurses, and presentations by four nurse/attorneys, all UB nursing alumni, on their work in this emerging field.
