Heating for academic program purposes will be provided on off-hours and weekends as needed. Each dean's office should provide the University Facilities Customer Service Department with a list of individuals in each departmental office authorized to request off-hour/holiday heating. The request for off-hour/holiday heating must be received by Customer Service (extension 71 or 645-2025) by noon of the preceding business day. University Facilities will utilize the most energy efficient means of supplying heat for approved off-hour/holiday requests.
Due to an inability to precisely control temperatures, it may be the case that some spaces may be warmer than planned. It may also be the case that central controls will not permit the temperature in specific spaces to be raised to 68 degrees Fahrenheit without significantly increasing the temperature in the rest of the facility. In those situations, University Facilities will permit the use of portable space heaters. Please note, however, that portable heaters not authorized by University Facilities will be removed. Please call University Facilities, Customer Service (extension 71 or 645-2025) in the event you experience heating problems. Please report overheated as well as underheated areas.
If you see any opportunities for energy savings or wish to suggest an energy conservation project, please call Walter Simpson, the university's energy officer (645-3528). Any general questions regarding efforts in the energy conservation area should be directed to Ronald Nayler, associate vice president for university facilities (645-3643), who also is chairman of the university's Energy Policy Committee.
