Core Biomedical Collections

Two new databases containing the FULL TEXT versions of 30 top biomedical research journals, Core Biomedical Collection I and Core Biomedical Collection II, are now available to the UB community via BISON II. You may access the collections through the University Libraries' homepage at URL: http://bison2.lib.buffalo.edu/, and select "Online Resources" from the left side frame.

From the Online Resources Page, select "Core Biomedical Collections" found under the section labeled "Full Text Journal Articles." You will then find an explanation of Core Biomedical Collection I and Core Biomedical Collection II, including a list of journals contained in each database. Select "OVID" and you will automatically connect to the OVID search page, where you may make your database selection. You may also go directly to the OVID page at URL: http://eagle.lib.buffalo.edu/ovidweb/ovidweb.cgi.

In addition to journals that are specific to biomedical research, more common, cross-disciplinary titles such as New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA and Science are included in the databases. Core Biomedical Collection I covers journals from 1993 to present, and Core Biomedical Collection II includes titles from 1995 to present.

Every word of article text is searchable, including references and graphics captions. Once a list of articles is retrieved, existing display options include: a brief bibliographic record, an abstract, or the full text of the article. Hypertext features allow moving to selected sections, displaying complete references cited in an article, and linking directly to MEDLINE and other full text documents. All graphics, tables, and photographs are included as they appear in print.

For help connecting to the World Wide Web and BISON II, call the ASCIT Help Desk at 645-3542.
