UB's 1997 Faculty & Staff Appeal will continue through April 28

The 1997 Faculty & Staff Appeal to benefit the university will be held through April 28.

"When individuals and organizations outside UB look to contribute to the university, they can often be swayed by the participation of the UB community in the development effort," said Ronald H. Stein, vice president for university advancement and development. "Each gift from a member of the faculty or staff supports any number of projects and activities. It's also a vote of confidence."

Last year's appeal generated more than $20,000 for scholarships, operating support for the faculties and schools (as well as the overall university), WBFO, athletics, the University Libraries and other areas. Faculty and staff can contribute to practically any department, division, or unit on campus during the appeal, either with a single gift or through payroll deduction.

It is estimated that an additional $80,000 was contributed to the university last year by faculty and staff through other appeals and initiatives, including alumni annual-giving programs and the WBFO membership drive.

Co-chairs of the 1997 initiative, which began March 28, are: Charles Fogel, professor emeritus, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; John Wright, interim dean, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences; Michael Stokes, chair of the Professional Staff Senate and director of the Office of Student Multicultural Affairs; Nancy Nielsen, clinical assistant professor, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences; and Claude Welch, chair of the Faculty Senate and SUNY Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Political Science.
