UB Women's Club gives Sesqui, Capen Awards

The UB Women's Club presented a special sesquicentennial award for university community service to a UB junior and the Grace W. Capen Academic Award to 26 sophomores in separate ceremonies held this month.

UB junior Dana Marie Bobinchek received the $500 Commemorative Sesquicentennial Award for outstanding service to the university community.

A member of the UB women's rugby team, Bobinchek is majoring in environmental studies and political science.

She served for two years as president of the UB Environmental Network, an organization involved in developing a variety of programs, workshops and lesson plans for use by local schools.

She also was regional coordinator for the national organization "Free the Planet!" and a member of the UB Environmental Task Force.

Recipients of the Grace W. Capen Academic Award each received a certificate and $200. The award is given to sophomore undergraduates who have completed three semesters, 45-50 hours of full-time study at UB and have a quality-point average of 3.9 or more.

Ratsizaharimanana, Heidi Ravenel, Heather Morganti, Glen Hinckley, Bryan P. Aylward, Erik J. Hjemdahl-Monsen, Jonathan Federick, Alyssa M. Johnson, Yee C. Yeung, Thomas V. Kozhimannil, Mohamed A. Kamal, Steven Roach, Guy J. Cappuccino, Thang Duc Nguyen, Thomas Prunty, Walid G. Azar, Martins D. Innus, Robert A. Sproull and Michael R. Tackett.
