Olivia Arditi, director of the Western New York Regional Information Network—part of the Institute for Local Governance and Regional Growth at UB—has been elected president of Alliance Française de Buffalo. A non-profit, non-political organization, Alliance Française works to promote and preserve French language and culture. Alliance Française de Buffalo—founded in 1902—is one of the oldest of the approximately 140 Alliance Française chapters in the United States.

William J. Rapaport, associate professor of computer science and engineering; adjunct professor of philosophy and a member of the Center for Cognitive Science, gave a presentation at the 6th World Multiconference on Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics (SCI-2002), held last month in Orlando. Rapaport also served as chair of the first session held at the conference on "Educational Support Systems, Computer Assisted Instruction and Computer Assisted Training."

Karl D. Fiebelkorn, assistant dean for student and professional affairs in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, was selected as the 2002 Pharmacist of the Year by the Pharmacists' Association of Western New York (PAWNY). He was honored for this achievement at the PAWNY Installation Dinner, at which he also was elected chair of PAWNY for 2002-03. The state Legislature recognized Fiebelkorn's achievements and dedication to pharmacy by declaring June 15, the date of the Installation Dinner, as Karl Fiebelkorn Day.

Rose Mary Madejski, clinical assistant professor in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, was elected to the Pharmacists' Association of Western New York (PAWNY) Hall of Fame at the association's Installation Dinner on June 15. Election into the Hall of Fame recognizes Madejski's years of dedication and work for the practice of pharmacy in Western New York and beyond.

Letitia Thomas-Rogers, director of Cora P. Maloney College, has received the "Educator of the Year" award from INROADS Upstate New York, Inc. INROADS is a national, non-profit organization that trains and develops talented young people of color for professional careers in business, engineering, technical and allied health-care careers. Thomas-Rogers was recognized for her support of the Upstate New York affiliate, as well as her efforts at UB.
