D. Joseph Mook, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and assistant dean for international education in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, has been elected chair-elect of the United States Executive Committee of Global Engineering Exchange (Global E³). Global E³ is a consortium of more than 100 leading universities in 18 countries that provides international educational opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students in engineering and computer science.

Steve Gallo, database administrator for the Center for Computational Research, has been selected as a "Digital Don" by infoTechNiagara, a regional organization dedicated to the support, promotion, and growth of businesses in the Buffalo-Niagara region that is involved in the advancement of computer technologies. The distinction of a "Digital Don" is "given to the gentleman with a combination of knowledge of the IT industry, commitment to community and being an overall 'nerd' in a positive IT kind of way." InfoTech Niagara also awards a Digital Diva award to recognize women in the industry.

Suman Basuroy, assistant professor of marketing in the School of Management, has been named to the Board of Directors of CEPA Gallery for a three-year term. Founded in 1974, CEPA Gallery is a comprehensive, not-for-profit arts center dedicated to promoting the photo-related and electronic arts.

Gary Earl Ross, associate professor in the Educational Opportunity Center, was honored as "Individual Artist" for 2003 by the Arts Council in Buffalo and Erie County. The council annually recognizes "those who exemplify superior commitment to supporting the arts in Western New York. Ross also recently published "Shimmerville: Tales Macabre and Curious."

Carine Mardorossian, assistant professor of English in the College of Arts and Sciences, delivered two papers at the Northeast Modern Language Convention held earlier this year in Boston: "Unsuspecting Storyteller and Suspect Listener in Charlotte Bronte's 'Jane Eyre' and "Cathy's Race in Maryse Conde's 'La Migration des Coeurs.'" Her essay "Rewriting the Postcolonial Legacy" will be forthcoming in an anthology entitled "Maryse Conde: By Way of Introduction."

Vincent O'Neill, associate professor and chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance in the College of Arts and Sciences, will play the role of Roger Fuller in the Irish Classical Theatre Company's production of Willy Russell's "One for the Road," scheduled to run May 29 through June 22 in the Andrews Theatre, 625 Main St., Buffalo. O'Neill is co-founder and artistic director of ICTC.
