Wicker will give a reading from her book at 7 p.m. June 16 in the auditorium of Allen Hall on the South Campus.

The reading will be free and open to the public. Bert Gambini, WBFO music director, will host the event. A reception and book signing will take place following the reading, which will be broadcast live on WBFO, UB's National Public Radio affiliate.

Each year, 20,000 visitors travel to Lily Dale, the oldest and largest community of spiritualists in the world, to consult one of the town's 450 mediums.

In "Lillydale," Wicker captures the life and spirit of the 122-year-old village populated solely by people who believe the dead live among them.

A religion reporter for the Dallas Morning News for 17 years, Wicker, has won numerous awards for her journalism, including the Clarion Award, the Wilbur Award, the Sunday Magazine Editor's award for feature writing and seven first-place prizes from the Dallas Press Club.

Ernst & Young matches alumni contributions to UB

The worldwide public accounting firm of Ernst & Young LLP and its staff members have contributed $22,112 to UB this year, thanks to the Ernst & Young Matching Gifts Program.

Included in the total amount is a gift of $9,956 to the School of Management for use by the school's Department of Accounting and Law.

Michael J. Murray, partner in the firm's Buffalo office, presented the gift last month. Murray helped coordinate the fund-raising efforts.

The Ernst & Young Matching Gifts Program is just one element of the firm's broad support for higher education. It also provides grants to doctoral candidates concentrating in accounting, sponsors professorships and faculty fellowships, and employs accounting student interns.

"We are grateful to Ernst & Young and our alumni here for taking this initiative," said Ronald Huefner, chair of the Department of Accounting and Law, "and we hope that it will be a model for our graduates in other firms that have matching gift programs."

The accounting program in the School of Management has been accredited since 1985 by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The program is one of only 163 programs in the country to achieve this level of recognition.

Free program to look at careers in law

The realities and rewards of attending law school and a career in law will be the focus of a free program open to the public to be held from 5-9 p.m. June 10 in O'Brian Hall, North Campus.

The program, sponsored by the Law School, will include a keynote presentation at 6 p.m. in the Moot Court in O'Brian Hall by Leslie Foshio, U.S. magistrate judge for the Western District of New York. A 1965 graduate of the UB Law School, Foshio previously served as assistant district attorney of Erie County, corporation counsel for the City of Buffalo and an associate professor and assistant dean of admission for the University of Notre Dame Law School.

Also on the agenda are roundtable discussions with UB Law School students and alumni, and breakout sessions on the law-school admission process and legal career options for law-school graduates.

Pre-registration for the program, for which space is limited, is required and may be completed by calling 645-2056 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

The program is part of "UBThisSummer," a series of workshops, lectures, summer camps and programs designed to provide educational opportunities for community members of all ages. Information about programs and activities may be obtained at http://www.UBThisSummer.net.
