Anderson Gallery extends Moers exhibition

Due to the popularity of the exhibition and its timing with the Buffalo-Niagara Summerlong Sensation festival and Art On Wheels public art exhibit, the UB Anderson Gallery exhibition "In the Ultra-Silent Light: Monoprints by Denny Moers" has been extended through Aug. 3

"This is an exciting summer in Buffalo," says Olsen, director of the UB Art Galleries. "I feel that keeping Moers' work on view will be beneficial to the community and our summer visitors."

The UB Anderson Gallery is an Art on Wheels location featuring "Book Mark," a tribute to Mark Twain's "Huckleberry Finn" by artist Rosemary K. Lyons. The work of veteran local artist Catherine Catanzaro Koenig also is on view at the gallery through Oct. 12.

UB Anderson Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday. The exhibitions are free and open to the public.

Jazz Dance World Congress returns to UB

Dancers, teachers, choreographers and dance enthusiasts will gather Aug. 6-10 in the Center for the Arts, North Campus for the 12th annual Jazz Dance World Congress, This unique global jazz dance event, presented by Gus Giordano and the Center for the Arts—with support from the UB Department of Theatre and Dance—will feature five exciting days of jazz dance classes taught by world renowned master teachers, as well as nightly jazz dance performances by internationally known dance companies and the annual Jazz Dance Choreography Competitive Event.

This year's congress will mark the third time the event has been held in Buffalo.

Congress registrants will have the opportunity to take class from the entire JDWC Master Faculty, which includes Gus Giordano, Frank Hatchett, Joe Tremaine, Randy Duncan, Nan Giordano, Liz Imperio, Masashi Mishiro, Tom Ralabate, Janet Reed, Judith Scott, Judi Sheppard Missett and Mark Swanhart, who will teach a special Fosse Technique class.

A highlight of the congress is the Jazz Dance World Festival, a series of dance performances open to the public and held at 8 p.m. on August 6-9. Each evening will feature a different program of five or more companies.

Companies scheduled to perform include Les Ballet Jazz de Montreal, Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, Janet Reed and Dancers (Buffalo), Masashi Action Machine (Japan), Odyssey Dance Theatre (Utah), Savage Jazz Dance Company (Oakland, Calif), Battleworks Dance Company (New York), Instincts Live Media Dance Company (Los Angeles), Charles McGowan (Buffalo) and Philadanco! (Philadelphia).

Tickets for the Jazz Dance concerts include admission to the Leo's Choreography Finalists Performances, held each evening at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets for the Jazz Dance World Festival—a program of Jazz Dance World Congress—are $25 for the general public and $10 for UB students. Tickets are available at the CFA box office from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and at all Ticketmaster locations. For more information, call 645-ARTS.
