Clarification

An article in last's week' issue of the Reporter failed to mention the involvement of the School of Nursing in a new post-graduate program that will award an advanced certificate in medical/health informatics.

The School of Nursing has been an integral component of the development of this program since its inception in late 2001, according to Scott Erdley, clinical assistant professor of nursing.

Moreover, the school was the first to develop a core required course for the program, Erdley said.

WBFO wins development awards

WBFO 88.7 FM, the National Public Radio affiliate operated by UB, was recognized with two awards at the Development Exchange, Inc.'s (DEI) Public Radio Marketing and Development Conference, held recently in Snowbird, Utah.

WBFO's development department received top honors for its overall achievements in corporate support and underwriting, and staff member Michael McKay was recognized as "Rookie Underwriting Salesperson of the Year."

McKay, a 17-year radio veteran, has worked in various capacities at WBFO. Prior to moving to the development department, he worked as a reporter in the news department and continues to host the "Talk of the University" program featuring President William R. Greiner.

"WBFO's development department has made a concentrated effort to offer local businesses an opportunity to support public radio and make an excellent business investment at the same time," says Carole Smith Petro, associate vice president and WBFO general manager. "To be recognized by one's peers at the national level is a significant accomplishment."

Led by Joan Wilson, director of development, the corporate support and underwriting program accounts for approximately one-quarter of the station's overall operating budget. The percentage of underwriting support has grown significantly in the past two years, and station membership has expanded to more than 7,200, with weekly listeners now numbering nearly 100,000.

Public radio's national marketing and service organization, DEI provides resources, information and on-going training for public radio station development and fund-raising staff for more than 200 member stations nationwide.
