UB's Hollywood Homecoming Weekend, set for Oct. 18-20, is shaping up to be another family-friendly, student and alumni-centered event. From reunions to football, tailgating to a movie premier, this year's homecoming events are certain to attract a varied audience and promise enough excitement to keep visitors to the university well-entertained.

Tagging the Hollywood theme to the entire weekend's festivities was a natural follow-up to the Alumni Visiting Scholar Seminar Series, which will be the kick-off event for homecoming. During the seminar series, which will be held Oct. 16-18, 19 UB alumni who have made it to the top of the entertainment industry will return to their alma mater to teach classes and mentor students in the Department of Media Study in the College of Arts and Sciences. For a list of participating alumni and courses, visit the Media Study Web site at http://wings.buffalo.edu/mediastudy/gallery/hollywood/hwood.html.

"Second String," a film about a group of second-string players who lead the Buffalo Bills to victory in the Super Bowl, will premier at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Center for the Arts Mainstage theater. It was written and directed by UB alumnus Rob Lieberman, class of 1971, one of the 19 "Hollywood scholars." The screening will be free of charge and open to the public. Tickets will be required and are available in the Alumni office, 109 Allen Hall, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Another highlight of the weekend will be a performance by comedian Wayne Brady of the hit television show "Whose Line Is It Anyway," hosted by Drew Carey, who will appear at 8 p.m. Oct. 18 in Alumni Arena, North Campus. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Brady is noted for his stand-up, improvisational comedy and singing on the show. Tickets are $20 for the general public. Alumni using the special tear-out reservation form in the fall issue of UB Today, the university's alumni magazine, can purchase tickets for $15.

Homecoming wouldn't be complete without a football game. The Bulls will take on the University of Miami RedHawks on Oct. 19, with kickoff scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Alumni Arena box office for $12. Alumni using the tear-out reservation form in UB Today can buy tickets for $10.
