Simpson names Genco interim provost
John B. Simpson, UB president-designate, has appointed Robert J. Genco, an internationally renowned researcher and one of UB's most distinguished faculty members, to be the university's interim provost, effective Feb. 1. » Full Story
Training geographic information scientists for the 21st century. The National Science Foundation has selected UB's National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis to receive a highly competitive, five-year, $3.8 million grant to fund a multidisciplinary, graduate-level training program in geographic information science.
Some animals know their cognitive limits. A UB research team has found that some animals, notably rhesus monkeys and bottlenose dolphins, have shown a capacity for metacognition, thought to be one of humans' most sophisticated cognitive abilities.
Upgrading Alumni Arena. The home of the Bulls' basketball, volleyball, wrestling and indoor track-and-field teams, is undergoing a nearly $2 million upgrade and renovation.
Researchers shed light on why antidepressants help to relieve chronic pain. In study results presented recently, UB scientists have shown the first evidence that the effectiveness of antidepressant drugs in treating pain stems from their ability to inhibit the production of the inflammatory protein tumor necrosis factor (TNF) in the brain.
Recognizing SEFA achievements. Various individuals and units across campus were recognized on Tuesday for their contributions to the successful 2003 SEFA campaign.
FSEC discusses grievance procedures. The Faculty Senate Executive Committee yesterday heard an interim report about efforts to streamline, clarify and strengthen undergraduate and graduate grievance and academic integrity policies.
