SOM to offer MBA option in biotechnology management
The School of Management will offer a new MBA concentration in biotechnology management, beginning in Fall 2004.
The curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation of business principles vital to building a successful career in the biotechnology field.
A new course, "The Business of Biotechnology," will provide students with a solid understanding of the issues, strategies and technologies associated with this large and growing industry. A second new course, "Managing Intellectual Property," will focus on intellectual property rights and the impact of the regulatory process in the commercialization of technology-based products.
The biotechnology management track also features a required course in entrepreneurship and a semester-long internship with a company or organization in the industry.
In addition, students will complete core courses in organizational behavior; project planning, evaluation, financing, marketing and management; statistical analysis, and database management systems.
"The biotechnology management track will align the School of Management with UB's mission in this area and the commercialization of technology. It will position our students on the leading edge of this emerging field, whether their goal is to be involved as entrepreneurs in biotech ventures or they wish pursue management careers with large biotech or pharmaceutical firms," said SOM Dean John M. Thomas.
CFA to present "A Garfield Christmas"
The Center for the Arts will present "A Garfield Christmas" at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Dec. 27 in the Mainstage theater in the CFA, North Campus. The production is part of the TOPS Family Adventure Series sponsored by TOPS Friendly Markets, WGRZ-TV and Star 102.5.
"A Garfield Christmas," starring the orange, chubby and somewhat lazy cat from the comics, is a wonderful, musical telling of the story of a cat who has lost the true meaning of this joyous holiday.
It's Christmas and Garfield's owner, Jon, along with his dog, Odie, are ready to celebrate the season. But Garfield can only seem to focus on opening his present. His lack of true Christmas spirit is a source of frustration for Jon, and to make matters worse, the Christmas tree lights won't work if there isn't enough spirit to bring them to life. In an act of desperation, ornaments from the Christmas tree begin to come aliveincluding the angel from the top. Together with an elf who has been sent by Santa as the "Official Christmas Spirit Inspector," they manage not only to make Garfield realize the true meaning of Christmas and giving, but also to bring happiness and joy to themselves and each other.
This lively holiday musical features such Christmas favorites as "Jingle Bells," "Deck the Halls" and "The Twelve Days of Christmas," as well as unforgettable, original numbers.
Tickets for "A Garfield Christmas" are $15 and $12, and are available at the CFA box office from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and at all Ticketmaster locations.
