MEN'S
UB 85, Northern Illinois 73
UB beat Northern Illinois, 85-73, in the Convocation Center on Sunday afternoon to snap its 19-game conference road losing streak. The Huskies, the preseason favorite to win the Mid American Conference crown, were 6-0 at home prior to Sunday's contest.
Northern Illinois (7-11, 2-6) jumped out to a 16-6 lead with 13:32 remaining in the first half. However, the complexion of the game changed over the next five minutes as the Bulls mounted a 21-6 scoring run to take a five-point lead. The Bulls built their lead to as many as nine points in the first half, before settling for a six-point halftime edge. A key to the Bulls' first-half lead was the play of Yassin Idbihi who had 12 points, five rebounds and three assists in the first 20 minutes. Calvin Cage was a spark off the bench as he scored seven points, including a three-pointer, in the first half.
The second half turned into the Roderick Middleton show as the sophomore guard scored all of his season-high 13 points in the second stanza. The Huskies pulled to within six at 60-54, but a Middleton jumper with 9:33 remaining extended the Bulls' lead to eight points and Northern Illinois would not threaten again.
It was the sixth win of the season for the Bulls who have already eclipsed their five win total of last season. The win also snapped the Bulls' six-game losing skid.
WOMEN'S
Holy Cross 71, UB 59
UB 57, Central Michigan 52
Ball State 73, UB 49
UB went 1-2 in a busy week. The Bulls fell to Holy Cross, 71-59, in Alumni Arena on Jan. 19, then knocked off MAC rival Central Michigan, 57-52, at home on Jan. 21. The Bulls then hit the road, dropping a 73-49 decision at Ball State. UB is 4-11 overall and 2-3 in the MAC prior to its Jan. 26 showdown at Northern Illinois.
After the loss to Holy Cross, the Bulls got back on the winning track against visiting Central Michigan.
The Bulls' largest lead of the game-and their only double-digit lead at 11 points-came at the 12:29 mark of the first half, 19-8, following a layup by freshman Belinda Gibb. Sophomore Brooke Meunier scored 10 of her 14 first-half points in the first six minutes of the game, including two three-pointers, to help the Bulls take the early lead. Central Michigan battled back with a 15-4 run to tie the score at 23-23 with 3:30 remaining in the half, but senior Jessica Kochendorfer scored seven straight points for a 7-0 UB run that got the Bulls out to a 30-23 lead with just over two minutes to play. Three free throws by the Chippewas in the final minute of the half sent the Bulls to the locker room up by a 30-26 margin.
An 8-2 Central Michigan run to open the second half, culminated by a three-pointer gave the Chippewas their first lead of the game, 34-32, with 15:12 left on the clock. Freshman Dina Atanas was fouled on a three-point attempt, and she hit two of her free throws to tie the game at 34-34. The score was tied three more times over the next five minutes of play before the Bulls went on an 8-0 run to go up 47-39 with just over five minutes remaining. Junior Allison Bennett hit a jumper at the end of the 8-0 run and made three layups after that for eight straight points that kept the Bulls' lead intact. A CMU three-pointer with 23 seconds left in the game got the Chippewas within three, 55-52, but junior Talia Merlino and Bennett each made one foul shot in the closing seconds to put the game out of reach.
A combination of poor shooting and late foul trouble spelled defeat for the Bulls at Ball State. UB dropped a 73-49 decision to the Cardinals, while shooting just 29.0 percent from the floor (18-for-62).

Akron also added two additional points for third place in the race for the final margin.
It was the second time this season that the outcome of a meet was not determined until the final event. UB dropped a 122-121 loss to Ohio on Nov. 8 after a furious rush in the final four events cut the lead from 35 points.
The Bulls will meet MAC opponents Eastern Michigan on Friday and Toledo on Saturday.
