The free event, sponsored by the Professional Staff Senate and the Faculty Senate, is an effort to promote the wellness of faculty, staff and graduate students, says William H. Coles III, associate director of the Center for Academic Development Services/Educational Opportunity Program and chair of the event.

Among this year's activities will be cooking demonstrations by staff from local restaurants, stress busters, exercise and exercise equipment demonstrations, presentations of retirement and financial information, lectures and question-and-answer sessions. Health assessments and screenings will be geared toward promoting physical and psychological well being. Raffles and give-a-ways will be held every hour on the hour, although participants need not be present to win.

Presentations on hormone replacement therapy, weight control and portion size and selection also are planned, along with a free analysis of the affects and interactions of medications. The connection between humor and health will be a topic of discussion, as will trans fats and current laser techniques for eye health. Walking for fitness, ergonomic stretching at work and the mind/body connection also are features of the activity-packed day.

For those who want to sample teas from around the world and get some organic cooking ideas, Wegman's "Nature's Marketplace" will be on hand, as will TOPS Markets, Dash's Market and Dandelions and Daffodil's restaurants.

UB Fit Health screenings will be available at the event and will be free of charge. Registration is required and is limited to 90 employees. To make an appointment, call Recreation and Intramural Services at 645-2286 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This screening includes cardiovascular risk analysis, blood pressure and heart rate, cholesterol, body-fat percentage determination, body mass index, grip strength, flexibility and more. Vitamin profiling also will be available.

Employees will be given release time to attend the event, says Coles.

For a detailed schedule of activities, check the PSS Web site at http://www.pss.buffalo.edu after Monday for a complete description of all demonstrations, presentations and participants.
