A special commemorative U.S. flag that was flown over Ground Zero and donated to UB a year ago by Capt. Stephen T. Spall, who graduated in UB in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and worked at Ground Zero as a member of the New York City Fire Department's Emergency Rescue Task Force, will be used in both ceremonies.

At 8:30 a.m. on the South Campus in front of Hayes Hall, members of University Police, Campus Ministries, University Facilities, Student Health Services, the UB/Canisius ROTC Color Guard and other groups will participate in a period of contemplation and reflection on the tragedy of two years ago. At 8:45 a.m., the time when American Airlines Flight #11 crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center, the commemorative flag will be raised to half-mast. A minute of silence will follow.

At 9:45 a.m., the program will shift to Coventry Plaza on the North Campus, at the stone marker dedicated to the memories of the 11 known UB alumni who perished in the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01. At 10:05 a.m., the time when the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed, the special commemorative flag again will be flown at half-mast. A minute of silence will follow.
