David Felder, Birge-Carey Chair in Composition in the Department of Music, and Cort Lippe, associate professor of composition and director of the Lejaren Hiller Computer Music Studios in the Department of Music, serve as artistic director and associate artistic director of the festival, respectively.

About 30 young composers from around the world will work with a distinguished, international faculty of composers, researchers and leading experts in interactive, multimedia, acousmatic and electroacoustic computer music. The festival will offer an intensive schedule of seminars, lectures, master classes, panel discussions and open rehearsals. Each of the invited composers will have one piece read or performed during an afternoon workshop presentation and will receive a recording for future study and demonstration purposes. Performances will feature resident ensembles and soloists known globally as interpreters of contemporary music.

Free daytime concerts, which will be held at 1:30 p.m. June 1-3 in the Drama theatre in the Center for the Arts, North Campus, also will highlight works by emerging composers. Most of the evening concerts, which will include performances of resident composers' works by resident ensembles, will be free this year as well, with the exception of concerts by the Slee Sinfonietta on June 1 and MOSAIC on June 2. Both of those concerts will be held at 8 p.m. in Slee Concert Hall, North Campus. Tickets are $12 for general admission; $9 for UB faculty, staff and alumni and senior citizens and WNED members with card, and $5 for UB students with ID. Tickets may be obtained at the Slee Hall box office from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays, at the Center for the Arts box office from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and at all Ticketmaster outlets.
