Degree program in athletic training is accredited

The BS/MS program in athletic training offered by the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences in the School of Public Health and Health Professions has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), the national accrediting agency in the field of allied health.

The UB program is the first—and currently only—five-year, combined bachelor's/master's degree program in the country to be accredited by CAAHEP. It combines exercise science and athletic training into one curriculum.

Students graduating from the program are eligible to sit for the National Athletic Trainers' Association's certification exam.

Paula Maxwell, clinical associate professor in the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, serves as program director.

Ernst & Young matches alumni gifts to UB

The worldwide public accounting firm of Ernst & Young LLP and its staff members have contributed $36,400 to UB this year, thanks to the Ernst & Young Matching Gifts Program.

Included in the total amount is a gift of $18,200 to the School of Management for use by its Department of Accounting and Law.

Michael J. Murray, partner in the firm's Buffalo office who helped coordinate the fund-raising effort, presented the gift last month to the School of Management.

The Ernst & Young Matching Gifts Program is just one element of the firm's broad support for higher education. It also provides grants to doctoral candidates concentrating in accounting, sponsors professorships and faculty fellowships, and employs accounting student interns.

"Ernst & Young and our alumni here have set a remarkable example for our graduates in other firms that have matching gift programs," said Susan Hamlen, chair of the Department of Accounting and Law. "These contributions allow us to maintain our high-quality programs and student activities, and we are very grateful to our alumni at Ernst & Young for all their support."

The accounting program in the School of Management has been accredited since 1985 by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The program is one of only 165 programs in the world to achieve this level of recognition.
