Parking and Transportation Services has added a new shuttle line and three more stops to an existing route in the UB Park and Ride Shuttle Service in an effort to ease the parking crunch during prime class hours for students, faculty, staff and visitors.

A new Yellow Line has been added to the color-coded intra-campus shuttle system to provide service from Flickinger Court and Hadley Village to locations along Putnam Way, says Chris Austin, adjudication and transportation coordinator for Parking and Transportation Services.

Three new stops—Lockwood Library, the Natural Sciences Complex and lower Capen Hall—have been added to the Red Line, Austin adds, noting that these new stops also will be available to those traveling on the Yellow Line.

The Yellow Line joins the Red and Green lines servicing the North Campus and the Orange Line that services the South Campus.

Other customer-friendly improvements that have been made to the shuttle service for the coming fall semester include outfitting the shuttles with color-coordinated antennae flags to make each line easier to identify and providing comprehensive shuttle schedules that are easier to carry and color-coded shuttle route maps, Austin says.

Each shuttle line has convenient pick-up and drop-off service at a park-and-ride site, he notes, pointing out that the Center for Tomorrow, Stadium and Alumni parking lots on the North Campus and the Main/Bailey and Parker lots on the South Campus always have plenty of empty parking spaces. A shuttle makes a stop at each park-and-ride lot every 10-20 minutes.

Each shuttle also services stops for the buses running between the North and South campuses. Inter-campus buses operate every 5-10 minutes during peak periods of each weekday.

Austin provided a brief description of campus transportation services:

  • Red Line Shuttle: Operates from 7 a.m. to 1:40 a.m. Monday through Friday, with departures every 15-30 minutes. This line services Creekside Village, the Ellicott Tunnel and South Lake Village, with stops at Alumni Arena, the Stadium park-and-ride lot, Coventry Loop and locations along the academic Spine.

  • Yellow Line Shuttle: Operates from 7:05 a.m. to 1:40 a.m. Monday through Friday, departing every 20 minutes. This line services Flickinger Court and Hadley Village, with stops along Putnam Way.

  • Green Line Shuttle: Operates from 7 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, with departures every 10-20 minutes. This line originates at the Center for Tomorrow park-and-ride lot, with stops at Crofts Hall, Flint Loop, Flint Village and the Super 8 motel.

  • Orange Line Shuttle: Operates from 7:40 a.m. to 7:40 p.m. (5:40 p.m. on Fridays), Monday through Friday. This line serves the South Campus, providing transportation from outlying parking areas and buildings and facilitating travel from one end of the campus to the other. This shuttle also provides a link to the inter-campus bus stops at Main Circle and Goodyear Hall.

  • Inter-Campus Busing: Buses traveling between the North and South campuses run approximately every 5-10 minutes during peak periods Monday through Friday, and every 30-60 minutes on weekends. Bus stops on the North Campus are located at Flint Loop, Governors residence halls, Lee Loop (with connecting service to Ellicott), the Ellicott Complex on the weekends and after 5 p.m., and Flint Village and Hadley Village on the weekends. On the South Campus, bus stops are located at Goodyear Hall, Main Circle and the Main-Bailey parking lot.

  • Mall Shuttle Service: Operates from 4-9 p.m., on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with departures approximately every 30 minutes from the Ellicott Complex and Governors residence halls. Stops include the Tops supermarket on Maple Road and the Boulevard Mall. On the South Campus, the shuttle departs from Clement and Goodyear halls, with drop-offs and pick-ups at the University Plaza Tops and the Boulevard Mall.
