In its first concert in Buffalo following a triumphant Carnegie Hall debut, the Baird Trio will present a program on Monday that includes Brahms, Copland and the world premiere of a new work by local composer Chester L. Mais. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in Lippes Concert Hall in Slee Hall, North Campus.

Acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, the members of the Baird Trio—pianist Stephen Manes, violinist Movses Pogossian and cellist Jonathan Golove—have performed numerous world premieres by living composers. The trio also offers programs geared to students at a variety of levels, including concert performances, workshops and master classes.

The Orion String Quartet, hailed for its artistry, technical mastery and astute approach to concert programming, will perform the third concert of the Slee/Beethoven String Quartet Cycle at 8 p.m. Dec. 10 in Lippes Hall.

The members of the Orion—violinists Daniel Phillips and Tod Phillips (brothers who share the first violin chair equally), violist Steven Tenenbom and cellist Timothy Eddy—have worked with such legendary figures as Pablo Casals, Rudolf Serkin, Isaac Stern, Pinchas Zukerman, Yo-Yo Ma and Wynton Marsalis. The quartet continues to perform in the world's leading concert halls and serves as quartet-in-residence at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and New York's Mannes College of Music.

Tickets for the Baird Trio are $5; UB students showing a valid ID are admitted free. Tickets for the Orion String Quartet are $12 for general admission; $9 for UB faculty, staff and alumni, senior citizens and WNED members with card, and $5 for students. Tickets may be obtained at the Slee Hall box office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, from the Center for the Arts box office from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and at all Ticketmaster outlets.
