Ruth D. Bryant, assistant dean, School of Architecture and Planning, has been elected to the board of directors of the John R. Oishei Foundation. Bryant is a former board member of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, serving for two years as its chair.

John Della Contrada, national media director in the Office of News Services, won one of two platinum awards presented by the Buffalo/Niagara Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America for his media-relations project to raise the public profile of the university's faculty. Della Contrada also received a gold award for his faculty campaign. Jacqueline Ghosen, director of communications, School of Management, received a gold medal for SOM's alumni magazine.

Eddie Hoover, professor of surgery, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, has been named associate chief of staff for patient safety for the VA Western New York Healthcare System. Hoover will continue surgical duties at the VA on a part-time basis. VA Western New York Healthcare System operates medical centers in Buffalo and Batavia, community-based clinics in Lackawanna, Olean, Niagara Falls, Lockport, Dunkirk, Jamestown and Warsaw.

Karen McNeal Aikman, clinical assistant professor and coordinator of the School of Social Work's Corning MSW Extension Program, recently was elected as the Southern Tier division representative to the National Association of Social Workers-New York State Chapter's Board of Directors. In addition to her board duties, Aikman will coordinate advocacy and educational activities for professional social workers in six counties of the Southern Tier region of New York State.
