Soccer

MEN'S

UB 3, Niagara 1
UB 3, Siena 0

UB posted a pair of victories during the past week to remain undefeated at 4-0-0. The Bulls knocked off rival Niagara, 3-1, on Sept. 7 in UB Stadium and dumped Siena, 3-0, on Sunday. With the exception of one goal against Niagara, all of UB's goals this season have come in the second half. UB has outscored its opponents 13-1 in the final 45 minutes of play.

Against Niagara, junior Andrae Clark, senior Greg Galemore and junior Brian Knapp scored goals, while junior Daniel Bell had little trouble in goal, stopping just two Niagara shots to record the win.

Against Siena, junior Erik Jaanimagi fired up the 200-plus in attendance in UB Stadium by scoring the first goal of the game with precision. After a pass from freshman Dan Gwyther, Jaanimagi settled the ball off a deflection, only to lead a break away down the left side of field and release a shot to the lower right corner of the goal.

Nine minutes later, at the 72:22 mark, the Bulls found their way back on the scoreboard with a header from sophomore Shyle Braithwaite.

The topping on the cake was scored off a one-timer from sophomore Lee Catchpole.

WOMEN'S

UB 2, Canisius 1
Cornell 2, UB 1

Canisius' Lindsay Benson snuck a shot from inside the goal box with 10 seconds left, but UB sophomore defender Amanda Courteau kicked the ball away inches from the goal line to secure the Bulls 2-1 win against the Golden Griffins at Demske Sports Complex on Friday.

Courteau's defensive save clinched the second win in a row for UB against Canisius, despite Canisius outshooting the Bulls, 14-11. Canisius took six shots on goal in the second half, but UB's two first-half goals still were enough to earn the win.

Senior Natalia Crofut scored a first-half goal on Sunday against Cornell, but the Big Red then scored a pair of goals in a three-minute span in the waning moments of the half to defeat the Bulls, 2-1, in Ithaca.

UB (2-3-1) ends its six-game, season-opening road trek by opening its home slate with a 7 p.m. game tomorrow against Niagara in UB Stadium.
