Raymond Hunt, emeritus professor in SOM

Raymond G. Hunt, a psychologist and UB professor emeritus, died Saturday in Fiddler's Green Manor in Springville after a long illness. He was 77.

A Buffalo native, Hunt graduated from Kensington High School. He served two years in the U.S. Army, including one year in Korea. Upon returning to Buffalo, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Viola Wannenwetsch, and enrolled at UB.

Instead of joining the family dry-cleaning business, he obtained his doctorate in psychology from UB in 1957 and accepted a position at Washington University in St. Louis. He returned to his alma mater as a faculty member in 1960, remaining at UB until his retirement in 1994.

During his tenure, he was a member of the Department of Psychology and later the School of Management, where he served as chair of the Department of Organization and Human Resources, and as director of the Survey Research Center.

Hunt authored numerous textbooks and journal articles. He led or participated in research projects for NASA, the School of Management's M.B.A. program in China and the Buffalo Police Department.

He was a member of the American Psychological Association and the academic honor society Phi Beta Kappa.

An explorer at heart, he loved to travel with his wife of 51 years, who died in 2000. His travels took him all over the world, including an eight-month stay in China.
