UB marks major achievement with opening of Center of Excellence
UB's New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences formally opened on Friday and officials hope the initiative will transform Buffalo into a hub for ground-breaking life-sciences research and industry. » Full Story
"Remote control" to deliver nanomedicine. UB researchers have developed a nanoparticle-based drug-delivery concept in which an applied magnetic field directs the accumulation in tumor cells of custom-designed, drug-filled nanocarriers.
Canty to head cardiovascular division. John M. Canty Jr., Albert and Elizabeth Rekate Professor of Medicine, has been named chief of the new Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Department of Medicine, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
A glimpse of the future. UB President John B. Simpson welcomed 200 middle and high school students from the Buffalo Public Schools on Tuesday for a tour and a morning of scientific demonstrations in the university's New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences.
First human microbiome analysis. UB researchers have published in the journal Science the first analysis of the genes of a community of human microbes, an accomplishment that has far-reaching implications for clinical diagnosis and treatment of many human diseases.
Penniman to return to faculty. W. David Penniman, dean of the School of Informatics, has agreed to return to the faculty, effective Aug. 1, to resume his responsibilities as teacher and scholar.
