Two Bulls fail to qualify for finals at NCAA Championships

UB athletes Roy Richards and Vanessa Roelofsen saw their record-setting seasons come to an end last week when they failed to qualify for the final rounds of their respective events at the 2006 NCAA Championships held on the campus of Cal State-Sacramento.

Richards, who at the East Regionals posted a school record in the long jump, finished 17th in the preliminaries with a jump of 24-0.75 (7.33m). Mike Morrison of Florida finished first with a jump of 25-11.50 (7.91m).

Roelefson ended the day with a 16th place finish in the javelin, finishing with a throw of 150-2 (45.78m). For the second straight meet, Anna Raynor from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington finished first with a throw of 176-5 (53.77m).

Richards and Roelefson both earned All-East honors and Roelefson was also named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team.
