Eric Moore scored a career-best 35 points, including a school-record 11 three-pointers. But it wasn't enough as Bowling Green rallied to defeat the Bulls, 74-73, in the conference opener for both schools on Sunday afternoon in Anderson Arena. Bowling Green's Martin Samarco netted 43 points, including the game-winning three-pointer with 2.8 seconds remaining.

UB (8-6, 0-1 MAC) fell behind by as many as 16 points in the first half, trailing, 34-18, with 6:17 left. The Bulls rattled off 13 straight points, capped off by a Greg Gamble layup to cut the lead to 34-31. A layup by Yassin Idbihi at the first-half buzzer cut the Bowling Green lead to one at the break. The Bulls' late first-half run was sparked by the defensive play of Darwin Young. The senior guard held Samarco, who had scored 20 of the Falcons' first 34 points of the game, scoreless for the final six minutes of the half.

The Bulls opened the second half on a 17-5 scoring run, capped by an Andy Robinson's three-pointer in which he was fouled. His free throw gave the Bulls a 52-43 lead. After the Falcons cut the UB lead to six with 10:16 left, Moore answered with back-to-back three-pointers to extend the Buffalo advantage to 11 with 8:30 remaining.

The Bulls held an 11-point lead with 4:48 remaining before the Falcons battled back. Bowling Green scored 12 unanswered points over the next 3 1/2 minutes and a layup by Ryan Simms gave the Falcons a 71-70 lead with 1:33 remaining.

Moore hit his 11th three-pointer of the game with 38 seconds remaining to put the Bulls back on top, 73-71. However, with two seconds remaining, Samarco hit an off-balance three-pointer from the corner to give Bowling Green the victory.

The loss spoiled a great day for Moore. His 35 points was the third-highest scoring total in a road game in school history. His 11 treys broke the school record of 10 set by Mike Martinho in 1996.

Idbihi, who had missed the previous three games with an elbow injury, notched his fifth double-double of the year with 16 points and 12 rebounds. The senior forward has now recorded a double-double in four of his last five games.

The Bulls will return home for a matchup against Miami (OH) at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

WOMEN'S

Miami (OH) 72, UB 59
Bowling Green 75, UB 42

The visiting Miami (OH) RedHawks outscored UB 42-23 in the second half, erasing a six-point halftime deficit and defeating UB, 72-59, on Jan. 3. The game was the first MAC contest for each school.

In the beginning it looked like the Bulls had control, leading by as many as 14 points in the opening half. Miami chipped away, but the Bulls still took a six-point lead into the half. It was the first time this season that UB lost a game after taking a lead into the break. Junior Heather Turner helped UB to the early lead, recording 14 points and eight rebounds in the first half alone. The Bulls shot an even 50 percent in the first half, opposed to 28.6 percent in the second half.

However, what hurt UB more than the shooting was the turnovers. After turning the ball over just eight times in the first half, the Bulls turned the ball over 18 times in the second half, leading to 23 Miami points. With those extra possessions, Miami was able to fire off 71 shots on the evening, converting on 27. The Bulls recorded a season-high 51 rebounds, including 15 off the offensive end. Turner accounted for 14 of those boards as she finished with a double-double, adding a season-high 24 points on 9-of-10 shooting. Turner also went 6-of-7 from the foul line. Sophomore Jamie Schiebner added 12 rebounds, her second straight game with double-digit boards.

Joining Turner in double figures was junior Stephanie Bennett, who had 13 points, six rebounds and a game-high six assists. After finding success from the three-point line in their previous game against Bucknell, the Bulls shot just 2-of-18 from behind the arc, opposed to a 7-for-17 performance from the RedHawks. In all, UB did outshoot Miami, by a slim .393 to .380 margin.

The Bulls also recorded a season-high six blocks on the evening, including a career-high three swats from freshman Kourtney Brown.

On Saturday, Bowling Green showed why it is the 19th-ranked team in the country, leading wire to wire to defeat the Bulls, 75-42, in Anderson Arena. The loss drops UB to 5-9 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.

The Falcons started off strong, using a 19-0 run over a nine-minute period to take a 38-15 lead into the half. The 15 points scored by UB in the half are its lowest output in a half this season. The Falcons continued to make their shots during the second half, shooting 54.5 percent for the half and 51 percent for the game. The Bulls shot just 31.9 percent for the game and had a difficult time from behind the arc, finishing just 1-of-12 from three-point range.

For the second straight game, Turner was very efficient from the floor, shooting a perfect 5-of-5 from the field and converting on her only foul shot of the game. Turner and senior Belinda Gibb led the Bulls with 11 points apiece. Nine different UB players scored, including the first field goal of the season from sophomore Rayna Brown. Brown finished the game with three points and three rebounds.

Bowling Green took advantage of its athleticism, turning its defense into a dominant offense, and scoring 23 fast-break points, opposed to just two for the Bulls. The Falcons were also able to turn 26 Buffalo turnovers into 30 points.

UB outrebounded BGSU, 33-30, marking the 10th time in 14 games that the Bulls have recorded more boards then their opponent.
