George Bobinski, professor and dean emeritus of the former School of Information and Library Studies, is the author of a new book, "Libraries and Librarianship: Sixty Years of Challenge and Change, 1945-2005" (The Scarecrow Press Inc.). The book summarizes the major trends and events that have transformed libraries and the profession of librarianship into what it is today.

Daniel B. Hess, assistant professor, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, School of Architecture and Planning, and Department of Geography, College of Arts and Sciences, will be one of only six invited speakers at the 2007 Sustainable Landscapes Conference, "Equality of Life: Realizing Social Justice and Human Dignity Through Design," at Utah State University on April 17. This one-day conference will provide a forum in which to explore persistent and contemporary issues of class, race, gender, culture, health, ability and life stage with the aim to discover how mindful design can be a positive force toward achieving an equitable, dignified life for all citizens. Hess is an engineer as well as an urban planner and among his recent studies are an investigation of transit service and job access from Buffalo's high poverty neighborhoods. He is currently investigating the barriers that keep older adults from riding traditional fixed-route transit.
