Deborah Waldrop, associate professor, School of Social Work, will speak at the "Ageism in Our Culture and Community" workshop being held from 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow in the Amherst Senior Center, 370 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst. Waldrop's talk will be followed by a panel discussion and questions and answers from the audience. The session is sponsored by the Erie County Department of Senior Services.

Vincent Clark, director of community relations, has been named to the board of directors of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce.

Hilary Weaver, associate professor, School of Social Work, spoke at the fifth annual Race and Reconciliation Conference sponsored by the City of Buffalo. The titled of her presentation was "Overcoming Mental Health Stigma: Responding to Troubled Youth."

Ginny Lohr, curator of education for the UB Anderson Gallery, will present a talk at the 2007 International Special Education Forum being held in July in Lima, Peru. Her talk, "Expanding Community-Exceptional Individuals and the Arts," will address the gallery's partnerships with Aspire (formerly United Cerebral Palsy of Western New York), the Erie County Medical Center and the Department of Family Medicine in the School of Medicine and Biomedical Science. In particular, she will discuss her work with Richard W. Pretorius, vice chair of the Department of Family Medicine, in developing a pilot course for UB medical students titled "Learning to Look: The Artist's Remedy to the Physician's Perspective." The course was developed in collaboration with the Johnson & Johnson/Society for the Arts in Healthcare.
