In announcing the appointment, James A. (Beau) Willis, executive vice president for university support services, noted that while Eldayrie had been overseeing campus information services and computing operations in his current position as associate vice president for information technology, UB has not had an official CIO since the retirement of Voldemar Innus last year.

"The appointment of Elias to this post serves to formalize his role as the senior officer with chief oversight of university enterprise IT and computing services and operations campuswide," Willis said.

In his role as CIO, Eldayrie has chief responsibility for the administration of IT governance issues and computing security across the campus units; the implementation of architecture, standards and guidelines for computing and information technology; and the development and promulgation of IT policies and procedures across the university.

He will serve as a member of the university's senior management team and will continue to be the project sponsor for the UB 2020 IT Transformation initiative.

"The leadership of Elias and his team has been of pivotal importance to the university's implementation of the IT Transformation team recommendations, as well as to the day-to-day operation of the central IT organization," Willis said. "His expertise and experience have been outstanding assets to the university, and I look forward to his continued leadership and valuable contributions as chief information officer.

Since joining UB in 1987, Eldayrie has served the university in a variety of administrative positions, including assistant vice provost for enrollment management, director of the Office of Financial Aid, director of the Office of Student Accounts and assistant director/systems analysis in the Office of Student Finances and Records.

In addition to his administrative duties, Eldayrie is an adjunct assistant professor in the School of Management.

He has received numerous awards, including the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service, a Sallie MAE Education Institute Award, a Student Access Excellence Award and a UB Service Excellence Award.

He received a bachelor's degree in computer science and an MBA, both from UB.
