Margarita Vargas, associate professor of Spanish in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, College of Arts and Sciences, delivered a paper entitled "Theater in Film: The Impossibility of Insularity" at the Jornadas de Teatro conference, held July 4-7 in Puebla, Mexico.

The Association for the Advancement of Social Work with Groups has awarded Larry Shulman, professor and former dean of the School of Social Work, its International Award for Outstanding Contributions to Group Work Education, Scholarship and Practice.

Julie Perini, a multidisciplinary performance artist and adjunct instructor in the Department of Media Study, College of Arts and Sciences, is one of 124 New York artists to receive a 2007 New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Fellowship. The NYFA Fellowships, which come with a $7,000 unrestricted grant, are given to New York artists representing eight artistic disciplines in the visual, performing and literary arts. Past NYFA Fellows include Spike Lee, Meredith Monk, Julie Taymor, Tony Kushner, Todd Haynes, Billy Collins and Carroll Dunham.
