John Fisher, pediatric pathologist
John E. Fisher, 75, professor of pathology in the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, died July 19 in Women and Children's Hospital. A pediatric pathologist, Fisher spent his final days in the hospital where he had worked for 36 years.
Born and raised in Kildare County, Ireland, Fisher attended medical school at University College, Dublin, and received additional training in Montreal.
He came to Buffalo in 1971 and began working in the pathology department at what was then Children's Hospital of Buffalo.
In addition to his work at the hospital, Fisher was a faculty member at the UB medical school.
He was a member of the Society for Pediatric Pathology and the European-based Pediatric Pathology Society. He also served on the medical councils of Ireland and England.
