UB's growth important to WNY. In his annual address to the voting faculty on Tuesday, President John B. Simpson stressed that the continued growth of the university is key to the region's economic success.
Conference to examine Creeley's work. Some of America's premiere contemporary poets and critics will gather in Buffalo next week to celebrate the life and work of the late poet Robert Creeley, who was one of UB's most distinguished faculty members.
Gender Week. The fifth annual Gender Week will be held next week with a theme focusing on "Human Rights: Advances Through Activism."

Control of House a "toss-up." A UB political scientist says that although there is a real possibility the Democrats could gain control of the House in the midterm elections, his forecast also leaves room for Republicans to narrowly hold on to their majority.
