Name: Sergio López-Piñeiro
School: Architecture and Planning
Department: Architecture
Academic Title: Assistant Professor
Academic Degrees: Diploma in Architecture, ETS Arquitectura de Madrid, Spain; M.Arch., Princeton University
Areas of Special Interest: Knowledge exchange between architectural theory and design, architectural blankness, spaces for collective life, space appropriation

My current projects focus on the production of blank architecture. Architectural blankness can be defined as the condition that allows and enables—maybe even encourages—the appropriation of a place by any urban player. I am developing this approach to architecture through different texts and projects to be shown in my forthcoming book, “The Enabler,” published as the result of the work produced under the Peter Reyner Banham Fellowship that I held in the Department of Architecture during the 2006-07 academic year.
