UB Human Resources has received the Excellence in Human Resource Practices Award from the Eastern Region of the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR). HR won the award for the HR Transformation Initiative, including the new services created for faculty and staff, among them wellness programs, the Work/Life Balance unit, the Training and Development unit and the new divisional HR units. CUPA-HR provides global leadership to the higher education HR profession and the higher education community by offering essential knowledge, resources and connections that enhance individual and institutional capacity and competitiveness. The CUPA-HR Eastern Region is the largest CUPA region and includes 463 member institutions.

Beth Adelman, associate director of the Law Library and head of Collection Management, has been elected vice-chair/chair-elect of the Academic Law Libraries Special Interest Section of the American Association of Law Libraries. The ALL-SIS serves “to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and information on academic law libraries and to represent its members’ interests and concerns within the association.” ALL-SIS is the second largest section in AALL.

Officer Brieanna Hahn has been named the University Police Employee of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2008. Hahn was recognized for initiating a traffic stop and subsequent investigation on March 26 that led to her making a felony arrest for possession of a controlled substance and prevented the delivery of narcotics to UB students living on campus. Lt. Chris Bartolomei and Officer William Malican received honorable mention

Essays by Alfred S. Konefsky, UB Distinguished Professor; Elizabeth Mensch, SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor; and John Henry Schlegel, Roger and Karen Jones Faculty Scholar and professor, all in the UB Law School, are featured in "Cambridge History of Law in America," a massive, three-volume tome that its publisher calls "the most comprehensive and authoritative account possible of the history of American law." The UB faculty members are among 60 legal historians writing in their areas of expertise in a publication that seeks to summarize and synthesize the history of law in America.
