UB Women’s Club installs officers

Joan Ryan was installed as president of the UB Women’s Club at the club’s recent spring luncheon.

Other officers for 2008-09 are Ellen Pierino, vice president; Linda Eaton, treasurer; Marion Schultz, recording secretary; and Lois Kelly, corresponding secretary.

Selected as members at large were Joyce Lenda, Vonnie Jones and Joanne Slocum.

The UB Women’s Club is a service organization to the university and the community. Membership is open to all women who have a commitment to the university and the purposes of the Women’s Club. Members participate in educational and charitable activities.

Membership dues are $20 per year.

Summer Dance Program to be held

The Department of Theatre and Dance is offering a Summer Dance Program for studio members, UB students and community members.

The evening program will be held June 30 through July 24. Intermediate/advanced level master classes will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Ballet classes will be held on Mondays, modern dance on Tuesdays, “special” dance on Wednesdays and jazz on Thursdays.

The cost ranges from $10 for one, 90-minute class, to $96 for 12 classes.

Tap classes will be offered from 7:45-8:45 p.m. on Thursdays. The cost is $8 for one, one-hour class and $28 for four classes.

The day program will be held July 7-10 and July 14-17.

Morning technique classes in ballet, modern dance and jazz will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Both beginner/intermediate and intermediate/advanced classes will be offered. The cost is $125 for one week and $230 for two weeks.

An afternoon intensive choreography and performance class will be held from 1:30-3 p.m. Both beginner/intermediate and intermediate/advanced classes will be offered. The cost is $175 for one week and $325 for two weeks.

All classes will take place in room B82, the Department of Theatre and Dance’s dance studio in the Center for the Arts, North Campus. Department faculty and guest artists will teach the classes.

Participants may register at the door. No cash will be accepted as payment; only checks will be taken. Participants in the evening program must be at least 16 years of age; participants in the day program must be at least freshmen in high school.
