UB Facilities has identified a fault in an underground power cable as the cause of a Monday morning power outage on the South Campus.

The cable is expected to be repaired by the end of the week, according to Scott Ludtka, assistant director of facilities operation. Additional interruption of campus power is not anticipated during the repair.

A back-up electrical feed is powering the South Campus while the repair is made.

Seventy percent of the South Campus was without power for about an hour-and-a-half late Monday morning while university crews rerouted power to the back-up cable.

University Police responded to the power outage and was on hand to direct campus traffic and monitor safety.
