I was attracted to UB by the university's long history in epidemiologic research and the easy living provided by the City of Buffalo. And the weather is warmer than Wisconsin.

Department: Industrial and Systems Engineering
Academic Title: Assistant Professor
Academic Degrees: B.S., Korea University; M.S. and Ph.D., North Carolina State University
Areas of Special Interest: Physical ergonomics, occupational biomechanics, workplace safety

I currently am most interested in the mechanism of low back disorders associated with prolonged stooped postures, and the development of a quantitative risk assessment tool or a prediction model of the stooped postures. Stooping is one of the major postures employed by workers in many occupational tasks, such as crop harvesting in the agriculture industry, and it also is one of the most problematic work postures that is not replaced easily by machines.

Name: Stephen Tiffany
School: College of Arts and Sciences
Department: Psychology
Academic Title: Professor
Academic Degrees: B.S., M.S. and Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison
Areas of Special Interest: Drug addiction

I am most interested in working at the interface of psychological and biological disciplines in an effort to understand the nature of addictive disorders. I currently am investigating drug craving, the diagnosis of drug dependence, drug use in adolescents, motivational processes in addiction and the development of biological and behavioral assays of low-level cigarette smoking. UB is clearly committed to interdisciplinary research-the intellectual atmosphere here is highly supportive of my work. The opportunity to be at a major research university-researching, teaching, collaborating, learning-is extremely fulfilling.
