Kenneth Takeuchi, SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Department of Chemistry, College of Arts and Sciences, was named the runner-up for the Inspire Integrity Award, the only national student-nominated award that recognizes college instructors for their commitment to embodying and instilling integrity. The award is sponsored by the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, an honor society of high-achieving freshmen and sophomores.

Gary Earl Ross, associate professor, Educational Opportunity Center, is one of eight playwrights selected to participate in the 2008-09 Emanuel Fried New Play Workshop, sponsored by Road Less Traveled Productions. The New Play Workshop is the development hub for Western New York playwrights and the lifeblood of Road Less Traveled Production’s mission to develop and produce plays by Western New York writers. Each playwright is developing a full-length comedy or drama that will be reviewed and analyzed in roundtable discussions twice a month throughout the season. Readings of these new scripts then are presented to an audience of playwrights and the general public.

Harold Rosenbaum, associate professor in the Department of Music, College of Arts and Sciences, received the Laurel Leaf Award from the American Composers Alliance (ACA) in recognition of “distinguished achievement in fostering and encouraging the performance of new American works.” Rosenbaum, who directs the UB Choir and the UB Chorus, received the award during the ACA Festival of New Music, held in June in Manhattan.

“A General Approach to Binary and Ternary Hybrid Nanocrystals,” an article published in 2006 in the American Chemical Society journal Nano Letters by researchers led by Paras N. Prasad, executive director of UB’s Institute for Lasers, Photonics and Biophotonics, is featured on the ACS Publications Web site as a “Hot Paper” as defined by Thomson (ISI) Scientific Essential Science Indicators. Hot Papers are articles published within the past two years receiving the most citations over the most recent two-month period.
