Faculty and staff can have fun with their colleagues while showing their UB pride and spirit at the first-ever Bulls Backyard Bash, to be held Aug. 28 in the special events field located between the Student Union and the Center for the Arts, North Campus.

The event, which will begin at 3 p.m. prior to the Bulls football team’s season opener against the University of Texas-El Paso, will include the “UB Idol” singing competition for faculty and staff, a pep rally, a community village with informational kiosks from various campus groups, interactive activities, food and a pre-game concert featuring the band All Time Low sponsored by the Student Association.

The UB Idol competition will begin at 4 p.m., with the pep rally featuring the UB cheerleaders, the Thunder of the East marching band and other entertainment following at approximately 5 p.m. The concert with All Time Low will begin at 5:30 p.m., with kickoff for the UB-UTEP game set for 7 p.m. in UB Stadium.

The bash is designed to build “a strong sense of community and promote camaraderie among our faculty and staff,” says Scott Nostaja, chief of staff in the Office of the President and interim vice president for human resources. He urged faculty and staff to “take advantage of this opportunity to have some fun with your colleagues, show your pride and spirit, and help start a new UB tradition.”

Auditions for the UB Idol competition were held on Wednesday, with more auditions taking place at 9 a.m. Aug. 13 in 107 Allen Hall, South Campus. For more information, click here.
