With a record fall enrollment and a net gain of nearly 100 new faculty members over the past three years, UB is building momentum as it implements plans to become one of the nation's top public research universities, President John B. Commission hears UB testimony
The role of UB as a major player in bioinformatics and life sciences innovation in Western New York was one of the topics of discussion during a public hearing convened Oct. 11 by the New York State Commission on Higher Education. » Full Story
Seismic simulator is world's first. A new testing facility at UB and MCEER is the first in the world specifically designed to subject equipment and mechanical systems in hospitals and other important structures to the precise floor vibrations that they experience during earthquakes.
Head of Amnesty International to speak. Irene Zubaida Khan, secretary general of Amnesty International, will deliver the UB Law School's Mitchell Lecture on Oct. 25.
Human trafficking topic of meeting. The meanings and histories of the devastating practice of human trafficking and its different cultural milieus and complex forms will be addressed during an international conference organized by the UB Humanities Institute.
Symphony booster. As the new conductor and music director of the UB Symphony, Christian Baldini has brought an international perspective and new energy to the student orchestra.
Focus on 2006 storm. UB researchers studying the response to the 2006 "October Surprise" storm have concluded that the effective coordination of emergency services played a critical role in decision-making during the crisis.
Grants to encourage undergrad research. The Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities is offering awards to eligible undergraduates to offset costs incurred for research and bring an "honors" experience to the entire student population.
UB partnering with Brock. UB has established a new exchange partnership with Brock University in St. Catharines that calls for a variety of initiatives, with a particular focus on the shared-border region of Western New York and Southern Ontario.
Arts in health care program planned. The Center for the Arts is planning to launch an arts in health care program in partnership with Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo next fall, the Faculty Senate Executive Committee learned yesterday.
