Deborah D.L. Chung, a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, was named one of the best material scientists worldwide. According to the 2020 Stanford University ranking, of the 177,931 researchers in the material science field, Chung is No. 14. She was also ranked No. 1 among all female materials scientists worldwide.
In a recent update, Chung was named No. 1 in the world in the Building and Construction field. Her number 1 ranking was obtained by considering all researchers that have Building and Construction as one of their two primary fields.
The list is chosen according to researchers’ publications and citations, with an overall Cumulative Career Composites Index. View the article here and the ranking list here.
Chung was also featured in the American Carbon Society’s quarterly newsletter for her breakthrough work on carbon science. The article is available here (see page 3) and a video that explains the project is available here.
She also is aso affiliated with UB's RENEW Institute, a university-wide, multidisciplinary research institute that focuses on complex energy and environmental issues, as well as the social and economic issues with which they are connected.
