UB Trademarks and Licensing will not approve or license the use of the UB name or marks in connection with certain products. The list below is not exhaustive, as items that are not listed here may also be prohibited.
- Alcoholic beverages and certain related products
- Tobacco, lighters and other smoking-related products
- Drug paraphernalia
- Firearms or weapons
- Food and beverage products*
- Sexually oriented goods
- Health, skin care and toiletries products
- Goods related to gambling, lotteries and sweepstakes
- Religious or burial goods
- Products of a political nature
- Goods including names or pictures of current students (e.g., student-athletes)
- Services of any kind (e.g., moving companies, area entertainment programs or tour services)
- Any product with a design that incorporates trademarks or copyrights not owned by the university, unless written permission is received from both the trademark or copyright owner and UB Trademarks and Licensing
- Goods making unfavorable references to race, religion, gender, sex, national origins or disabilities
- Certain sports or athletic equipment
- Products in “poor taste,” including bathroom products
*Food and beverage products and accompanying packaging may be allowed on a case-by-case basis pending a full review and written permission by UB Trademarks and Licensing.
