The championships were hosted by UB, which leaves the league after four years to become a member of the Mid-American Conference in 1998.
Oral Roberts defeated Chicago State, UMKC and Western Illinois to claim the title. The Westerwinds defeated UB and Youngstown State to reach the finals. Youngstown State beat UMKC to claim third place.
Haddad had touchdown receptions of 8, 49, 40, 42 and 62 yards, all from senior quarterback Chad Salisbury, reprising the familiar combination from last season. Salisbury finished the game with 14-of-22 passes for 317 yards and five TD strikes to Haddad with no interceptions. Sophomore wideout Enrico Pierre added four catches for 96 yards and senior John Opfer had five catches for 89 yards and a touchdown.
Sophomore quarterback Billy Feldmaier was 10-of-15 passing for 85 yards and a touchdown.
On the ground, freshman David Schmidli led the Bulls with 70 yards on 10 carries, while sophomore Marvin Brereton had 62 yards on 19 carries.
Defensively, the Bulls were paced by senior linebacker Antonio Perry with 14 tackles, including six solo stops.
Sophomore free safety Eric Pipkins added 10 tackles for the Bulls, while sophomore Brad Tanton had seven tackles and 2-1/2 sacks. The Bulls had five sacks on the day.
The Blue-White scrimmage concluded the spring practice session for the Bulls. UB will open the 1998 season-their last as a Division I-AA program before heading to the Mid-American Conference (MAC)-on Sept. 3 at the University of Maine.
