Richard
D. McLeron,
retired director of internal audit, died June 3 in Hospice Buffalo,
Cheektowaga, after a long illness. He was 75.
A
native of Lancaster, McLeron served in the Army and was based in Europe
from 1945-47, attaining the rank of sergeant and becoming an expert
machine gunner.
He
graduated from UB with a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1951. After
joining the university's professional staff in 1961, he established
and directed the internal auditing system that the then-private University
of Buffalo needed to develop as part of its merger with the State University
of New York system.
He
was a member of Toastmasters, the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants,
the Institute of Internal Auditors and the Association of College and
University Auditors.
McLeron
retired in 1991 and was an active member of the Emeritus Center and
its REV-UP volunteer group until his death.
