Central Michigan 16, UB 8
Central Michigan used a grind-it-out offense and an opportunistic defense
to hold off UB, 16-8, in a Mid-American Conference game Saturday night
in UB Stadium.
Central opened up a 16-0 lead in the first half on a 20-yard touchdown
run by Robbie Mixon and three field goals (44, 33 and 19 yards) by Paul
Savich.
The Bulls made things interesting in the final minutes.
UB's junior tight end Chad Bartoszek caught a 32-yard touchdown pass
from quarterback Joe Freedy with 45 seconds left, and the two hooked
up again for the two-point conversion to cut the score to 16-8. However,
CMU' recovered UB's onside kick and ran out the clock for the win.
Army game rescheduled
Director of Athletics Bob Arkeilpane has announced two changes to the
Bulls' football schedule in the process of rescheduling the Army game,
postponed on Sept. 15 due to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11.
The Bulls will travel to West Point to play the Black Knights of Army
at 1 p.m. on Nov. 10. UB's game with the University of Akron, originally
set for Nov. 10, has been rescheduled for 1 p.m. Nov. 17 in UB Stadium.
Tickets for the original dates of both games will be honored on the
rescheduled dates. Questions regarding the rescheduled games can be
directed to the UB Ticket Office at 645-6666.

Women's
Bulls on Academic Top 25 list
The women's basketball team has been honored by the Women's Basketball
Coaches Association (WBCA) for its academic performance during the 2000-01
school year. With a team grade-point-average of 3.222, the Bulls, placed
23rd on the WBCA's Division I Academic Top 25 Honor Roll.
"This honor is a reflection of our players' commitment, not just on
the basketball court but in the classroom also," said third-year head
coach Cheryl Dozier. "The tremendous support systems we have here at
UB put our student-athletes in a position to be successful, and their
hard work and dedication then made that a reality. I'm very proud of
our entire team for attaining a high level of academic success."
Soccer
Men's
Bowling Green 1, UB 0
Niagara 3, UB 0
The men's soccer team lost a 1-0 overtime decision to MAC rival Bowling
Green on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Bulls to 3-4-1 overall
and 0-2 in the MAC.
Bowling Green's Tony Malik ripped a shot from outside the top of the
box that slipped through UB goalkeeper Brian Wozniak's hands with 4:15
left in the first overtime period to give the Falcons their first conference
win of the season.
The Bulls began the week by losing, 3-0, to Niagara in heavy rain.
Women's
UB 3, Ball State 2
Miami 4, UB 1
Sophomore Robin Aparo scored with 3:13 left in overtime to give the
UB women's soccer team a 3-2 victory over Ball State in MAC action on
Sunday afternoon. The Bulls improved to 5-5 overall and 4-2 in the MAC.
The Bulls opened the weekend with a loss. Freshman Brenna McJury scored
her second goal of the season in the 60th minute to pull UB within a
goal (2-1), but that was the closest the Bulls would get as they dropped
a 4-1 decision to Miami on Friday night.
Volleyball
Northern Illinois 3, UB 0
Toledo 3, UB 0
The Northern Illinois Huskies proved to be too much for UB as they
handed the Bulls their fourth conference loss of the season, 30-15,
30-25, 30-22, in DeKalb. With the loss, UB's record drops to 2-9 overall
and 0-4 in the MAC.
UB began the weekend by dropping three quick games to the Toledo Rockets,
30-23, 30-17, 30-23.
Cross country
The men's and women's cross-country teams were in action at the Red
Flash Invitational hosted by St. Francis College. The Bulls won the
men's competition with 27 points. The UB women, with 60 points, placed
second in the women's competition.
Tennis
Women's
UB competes in Nike Fall Classic
The women's tennis team continued in its 2001-02 season over the weekend
at the Nike Fall Classic at St. Bonaventure University. UB finished
the three-day, six-team flighted tournament with a second-place doubles
win and two third-place singles winners.
